Dear Meredith.
Black New York City public school kids just completed their first week back in school, with few to no books with characters who look like them, live like them, or have similar experiences. Due to a lack of curricula that reflect them, our children’s experiences are being erased. Our children deserve an education that reflects and empowers them, and we can make a difference this school year.
Color Of Change is putting books written by Black authors for Black kids into the hands of NYC students.
While we are still fighting to ensure that NYC school curricula contain books like these for every child, for the cost of lunch, you can make a difference this school year by ordering a book for a child to take home, providing cultural enrichment and promoting healthy reading habits.
